AFT-Oregon and OSEA recommend Bradbury for Governor and Castillo for Superintendent of Public Instruction
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AFT Oregon and American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Local 6732, Oregon School Employees Association (OSEA) have endorsed Bill Bradbury for Governor and Susan Castillo for questionnaires, interviews and leader deliberations over the last six weeks.
"Bill Bradbury earned our endorsement because he is clearly a strong supporter of education, public services and health care. These issues are important to our members and middle class Oregonians in general," stated David Rives, AFT-Oregon President.
"It is clear to us that Bill Bradbury understands our schools and our students need support today - not sometime years in the future. He knows today's students deserve the high quality education they have been promised, and as governor he will fight for them, added Merlene Martin, President of OSEA.
Bradbury expressed his gratitude for the endorsement upon receiving the news. "I am honored, pleased and humbled to receive the endorsement of the OSEA and AFT-Oregon in my race for Governor. To receive the support of the 33,000 school employees, nurses, bus drivers, university and community college professors, food service workers, and child care providers that make up AFT in Oregon is a tremendous boost to my candidacy and I will work every day in this campaign and as governor to honor this endorsement."
Susan Castillo has worked to expand early childhood education, and connecting with teachers and staff to fully implement the standards of the Oregon High School Diploma during her two terms as Superintendent of Public Instruction.
"Susan Castillo is a proven champion of public education and the thousands of professionals who work in our schools every day, and she well-deserves our support," said OSEA's Martin, of Castillo's experience.
"I am honored to have the support of the members of AFT-Oregon and OSEA. I look forward to our continued collaboration as we strive to ensure the best possible education for our children," said Castillo.
AFT-Oregon and OSEA represent some 33,000 higher education faculty and pre-K-12 and higher education classified education employees in Oregon. They are affiliates of the national American Federation of Teachers.

Bradbury Campaign Raises over $100,000 in the past 30 days
Over $60,000 raised in the last 7 days, $25,000 in the past 48 Hours
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Bradbury Campaign announced today that they raised over $100,000 in the past month. The campaign now has over $100,000 in cash on hand and has raised over $305,000 to date.
“We set a goal of raising $100,000 between February 1st and today and I am proud to say we met that goal,” said Bradbury campaign manager Jeremy Wright.
Bradbury Fundraising Director, Emily Rose Williams went on to highlight the large number of unique contributors to the campaign, “We now have over 1250 contributors to the campaign. To put that number in context at the first of the year we had 728 contributors. Adding over 525 new financial supporters in less than two months is remarkable momentum.”
That momentum has picked up significantly in the last week. The Bradbury Campaign has raised over $60,000 in the last 7 days and over $25,000 in the past 48 hours. The vast majority of contributions have been from individuals giving $10, $20, or $50. In fact, of the $100,000 raised in February, over 60% came from contributions less than $100.
By contrast the Kizhaber campaign continues to rely on large checks from established interests to fund its efforts: 83% percent of Kitzhaber’s contributions are from donors of $1000 or more and 52% of his funds have come from donors of $5000 or more. In fact, 43% of all of John Kitzhaber’s campaign funds come from PAC’s or Business Interests.
“Our campaign is different. People are giving what they can in an incredibly tough economy because they understand that Bill Bradbury is THE Democrat in this race who will energize the party and the state. They are joining this movement to reject the post-partisan centrism that Governor Kitzhaber is running on. One merely needs to look at the Democrats in Washington D.C. to see what Governor Kitzhaber’s approach leads to. Democrats in Oregon want no part of that here in Oregon and that is why you see the momentum and money moving towards Bradbury.” Wright concluded.

Bradbury Matches Democratic Rival Kithzaber in Every Head to Head Comparison
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rasmussen Reports released new polling on the race for Oregon Governor today that shows Bill Bradbury beating all Republican candidates for Governor.
Furthermore, Bradbury matches his Democratic rival in the primary in every head to head match up. In fact he performs better in some match ups than Governor Kitzhaber.
“This poll shows us Bill Bradbury’s strength against every Republican candidate in the field,” said Bradbury campaign manager Jeremy Wright.
Wright continued, “In terms of the primary, this poll eliminates any question regarding Bill Bradbury’s strength in comparison to the former Governor in the general election. As THE Democrat in the race Bill Bradbury shows you do not have to compromise core Democratic values in order to beat Republican opponents in the fall.”

Bill Bradbury Announces Plan to Create a Bank of Oregon
Bradbury Releases Bank plan as part of Energize Oregon 8 Solutions to Getting Oregon Working Again
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Portland, Oregon- In an appearance today at a sustainable small business in
downtown Portland, Bill Bradbury called for a creation of a Bank of Oregon
in order to keep Oregon money in Oregon and grow Oregon-based businesses.
Bradbury announced his proposal for the Bank of Oregon as part of his plan
Energize Oregon - 8 Solutions to Getting Oregon Working Again (PDF Link:
http://tinyurl.com/yz46yt3).
In calling for the Bank of Oregon Bradbury said, ³It is time to declare
economic sovereignty from the multi-national banks that are responsible for
much of our current economic crisis. It is time to keep Oregon money here
in Oregon working for Oregonians.² He continued, ³Every year we ship over a
billion dollars in Oregon taxpayer dollars to out of state and
multi-national banks in the form of deposits only to see that money invested
elsewhere. It¹s time put our money to work for Oregonians.²
Bradbury went on to highlight the financial crisis many Oregon small- and
medium-sized businesses are facing ³Small- and medium-sized businesses are
the engine that drives our economy and large banks have stopped providing
fuel for that engine. They need investment.²
Under the Bradbury proposal, the Bank of Oregon would be modeled after the
enormously successful Bank of North Dakota. All state government agencies
would be required to deposit their funds in the bank. The Bank of Oregon in
turn would then invest Oregon money in Oregon, and utilize our money as a
tool for economic development, lending money and making a profit just like
any other financial institution.
Bradbury emphasized the role of Oregon Community Banks in his plan, ³The
Bank of Oregon is about increasing investment in Oregon and that includes
our community and regional banks. In fact those institutions will see more
investments from the Bank of Oregon.²
Under the Bradbury Plan, The Bank of Oregon will serve as a ³banker¹s bank²
providing services and guarantees for existing financial services as well as
helping private banks launch new loans and job creation initiatives.
The Bank of Oregon would be designed to partner with private financial
institutions not compete with them.
Bradbury concluded his remarks by acknowledging the need to get Oregonians
working now, ³The proposals I have outlined today are based on the fierce
urgency of now. Now is the time to act, people are suffering, unemployment
is reaching record levels. It is time to Energize Oregon and get Oregon
working again. I believe in the people of Oregon, that is why I am willing
to invest in our ingenuity, I want to invest in our perseverance and I want
to invest in our future.²

Bradbury Releases Statement On Kitzhaber Voting Controversy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Oregonian reported today that former Governor John Kitzhaber has failed to vote in 5 out of the last 13 elections.
The Bradbury campaign released the following statement in response to this story:
“We are proud that Bill Bradbury is the only candidate for Governor with a 100% voting record. Bill has always felt the right to vote is a privilege and an honor.
As Secretary of State Bill implemented the nations first and only 100% Vote by Mail system that is arguably the easiest system in the nation in which to cast a ballot.
And Oregonians have embraced that simplicity with some of the highest turnouts in the nation (over 85% in 2008).
We find it disturbing and disappointing that a former Governor would not take the time to vote not just once but on 5 separate occasions.
In fact, Governor Kitzhaber declined to cast a ballot in the November 2007 special election.
The November 2007 special election had some of the most important ballot measures in recent years that directly impacted the lives of millions of Oregonians.
Ballot Measure 49 was a culmination of a decades long struggle to protect farm and forestland from sprawl and provide fair and equitable compensation to land owners.
Measure 50 would have provided health insurance for 100,000 additional poor Oregon children who had no coverage through an increase in taxes on cigarettes.
This pattern of not voting is yet another example of a Kitzhaber candidacy that is long on rhetoric but short on specifics.
A candidacy that appears disengaged from the every-day realities of Oregonians in 2010.
Bill Bradbury has voted in every election for the past 25 years because he understands the real impact elections and elected officials have on working Oregonians.
That is why he wants to be Governor. Bill is the only candidate in this race who has provided specific proposals for education, conservation, sustainability and jobs
and will continue to engage Oregonians every day as he asks for their vote.”

Bill Bradbury Releases Statement On Bill Sizemore Entering Gubernatorial Race
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Today Bill Sizemore announced he was once again running for Governor of Oregon. I would like to welcome him to the race because the differences between us could not be clearer and I look forward to highlighting them as this campaign progresses. In many ways the policy proposals I have made the cornerstone of my campaign – economic stability and growth, full funding for education and environmental sustainability - are predicated on the direct dismantling of the Sizemore legacy. A legacy that has wrecked havoc on Oregon and has driven us to the point where the Pew Center on the States ranked Oregon as one of the top 5 states in the nation at risk of financial catastrophe in the next year. Sizemore’s strategy has been a simple formula: craft ballot measures that de-fund Oregon, take away the rights of workers like nurses, firefighters, and teachers, and attack the services which Oregonians rely upon and value like public education. Oregonians are ready for something different. In recent years they have voted down Sizemore’s initiatives wholesale and I believe they are ready to reverse the legacy of his most destructive measures that have imperiled this state and have, in large part, put us in the fiscal situation we are in today. Oregonians are ready to reject the politics of the 1990’s and the Bill Sizemores who profited on our children’s future. They know that now is not the time to look to the past for solutions to our future. We face great challenges and our obstacles are many but I have faith in Oregonians to embrace these 21st century problems with 21st century solutions.”

Al Gore Endorses Bill Bradbury For Governor of Oregon
Vice President and Nobel Prize winner announces endorsement at sold out fundraiser
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In front of 440 enthusiastic supporters, Vice President Al Gore stated, “I’m proud to endorse Bill Bradbury as the next Governor of this state. I am here to speak for Bill Bradbury and tell you what I know about this man. And to tell you what I know about this man has meant to me personally as a friend of extremely strong character, commitment and leadership.”
In his remarks Bradbury acknowledged the endorsement, saying, “It is truly an incredible honor.”
Bill Bradbury and Al Gore were joined on stage by pioneers in building a sustainable economy in Oregon.
In his remarks Bradbury asked “Do we accept the challenge of addressing global climate change and the economic opportunities that come with it, or do we choose the status quo that will lead to a bleak future for our children?” He went on to say, “In many ways we as Oregonians have already accepted the challenge. We are indeed ahead of the curve.”
Bill Bradbury specifically called for energy efficiency regulations on television sets similar to those in California. He also called for the closure of the coal-fired power plant in Boardman, Oregon that currently provides Portland with up to 40% of its power.
Bradbury went on to say, “Our plans are not small but neither is the challenge before us…As your Governor, with your help, we will put Oregonians back to work and make Oregon the sustainability capitol of the nation and address the greatest threat of our generation: Global Climate Change.”
Bill Bradbury is a nationally recognized leader in the fight against global climate change. As Secretary of State for Oregon Bill was its second-highest-ranking constitutional officer. Along with the Governor and Treasurer, he sat on the State Land Board, and he was appointed by Governor Kulongoski to chair the Oregon Sustainability Board.

Bill Bradbury Calls for Removal of Soda Vending Machines
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In a forum featuring the first joint appearance of the Democratic candidates for Governor, former Secretary of State Bill Bradbury made news by calling for the removal of soda vending machines from Oregon public schools.
In response to a question about healthcare and healthy choices Bradbury said, “We need to start changing what people put into their body. The obesity epidemic, especially among juveniles, is nothing short of a financial and healthcare crisis today.”
Bradbury then emphasized parental responsibility in combating juvenile obesity, “Let me be clear, I strongly believe responsibility begins at home and parents must be responsible for providing healthy choices for their children.”
Bradbury then went on to highlight corporate responsibility to provide healthy alternatives for parents and children, “Most parents are no match for the marketing power of these beverage companies. Have you tried to buy a soda lately without High Fructose Corn Syrup in it? I think it is time that these companies be held responsible for what they are marketing and providing to our kids.”
He concluded his remarks by calling for the removal of the soda machines so prevalent in Oregon schools today, “One clear example is the fact that these soda companies are paying our schools to place their vending machines in our children’s hallways. And our school districts are accepting the money because they are underfunded. That is absurd. We need to fully fund education and stop trading our children’s health just for a few dollars. As Governor I will stop this program.”
